Devialet Predictions for 2020
#11
(03-Jan-2020, 22:49)pjlarge Wrote: My predictions:

...

Q4 2020 - Discontinuation of the Expert Pro platform as the company refocuses on consumer and mobile audio.

Would they even tell us if this happened in Q4 2019? We heard that Expert Pro platform is unfortunately not really the focus of company any more, with a very weak promise that it should improve once they fix everything else... I'd watch magazine commercials for Devialet Expert range - for now they still appear once in a while. Once they're gone, it's really abandonment, and we don't even have a guarantee that they will provide configurator for an old discontinued product...
• Kuzma Stabi S turntable • Kuzma Stogi S arm • Benz Micro ACE H cartridge • PC with MusicBee / WASAPI source • Oyaide d+ NEO B-Class USB cable • Devialet 200 amplifier • Blue Jeans Ten speaker cable • GoldenEar Triton One •

The just announced NAD M33 has innovations that the Expert series should have, including room correction.

And what has Devialet just announced? A smart speaker branded by Belkin. Yawn.

Very good review for this other model, the NAD C658, also with room correction and an initial price of 1,700 €

It’s rather depressing to witness NAD innovations in its Masters M33 (robust web interface, Dirac Live room correction, full MQA decoding, first mass-market adoption of the Purifi Eigentakt module, etc.) while we know full well that Devialet has stymied the Expert development path.

I, for one, will test drive the M33 as a possible replacement for my Devialet Expert 220 Pro. Don’t mistake me: there are many things I love about Devialet but their abysmal customer service and lack of resource allocation for development leave me cold.

I concur; just been reading about Naim's streamers - they already have native Tidal, and are soon to have Qobuz:

As an Expert Pro 250 CI owner, since late 2016, I continue to be very happy with my machine and it is 100% reliable. The Roon Ready made all the difference.

My sone loves the Reactor I bought for my office, but I don't get to use.

Hello,

I've just bought the NAD C658 last december and plugged it to my D440, especially to get the Room Eq feature (DIRAC Live). The difference before/after is amazing. Devialet without Room Eq sounds bland and with DIRAC, I get a slighty better spacialisation, voices are clearer... Really hope that Devialet will offer an integration with a solution like Dirac in the future... thus in conclusion, my D440 is now simply used as a power Amp, and it's quite expansive for a power amp... Devialet should care of the competition like NAD M33, because they are falling more and more behind on the HIFI market.

@brownzen Exactly my point!  Competition never stands still.  Devialet needs to keep innovating or competitors such as NAD will overtake them.  And the resale market for our Devialet products will reflect the new reality.

I don't doubt that Devialet can compete with anything on, or soon to be on the market. What for the life of me I can't figure out is why they quit trying. They certainly have the technical competency, but for whatever bizarre business reason, they seem to have given up on high-end audio. Sad, and I'd love to be proven wrong, but my prediction for 2020 is that we will see little if any further development on the Expert Pro series.
Devialet 440 Pro (two 220s)- Oracle CD transport - Kuzma Stabi S/Stogi S turntable - Von Schweikert VR-35 speakers - JPS SC3 SCs - PI Audio power conditioning -
Triode Wire Labs ICs and PCs - Roon on NUC 8i7beh running ROCK
