Dirac and room correction software
Thanks Guys.
I have settled on using ROON.
Audio MIDI in Mac appears to alter the music.

I looked at and downloaded but didnt try HQ player.. I really dont need more than my Dirac DSP to bugger with the signal.. I would rather keep it pristine till then...

I am still waiting for my Dirac unit from HK to arrive.
There was a delay in shipping, due to low stock I presume.
Thanks Rodney, may need to tap your expertise later on.

As to iTunes I have no used that in quite some time, but I would be a bit surprised if the Audio Midi settings had much of an impact.

...

Unless things have changed since I used it last year, iTunes sets the sample rate to the first track played, and that's it - the rest will be played at that rate regardless.

Not even this, it uses whatever sampling rate was set in Audio Midi when it (iTunes) is launched, so if 24/192 was selected iTunes will use Core Audio to resample to that until it is closed and a new setting put into Audio Midi.

That's why I use Bitperfect which switches both the Macs Audio Midi settings and the sampling rate of the receiving DAC (that's how the developer explains it on his web-site).

Tonight's revelation was moving the listening position forward about 20-30cm from where the chair was when I did the first 'hero' measurement.

Wow, that's a really convincing holographic sound. Probably the best sound I've had to date in this house (3 years).

Ideally I'd work out how to shift it back a touch as the chairs a bit too close a table in the lounge but will just enjoy it for a while!

I'm sitting pretty close to the speakers (about 220cm from ear to left speaker) which are 250cm apart.
I'm very slightly offset but Diracs dealing nicely with that.
Maybe I'm too close now anyway? But it feel like I could shift even slightly more forward.

Speakers have a fractional toe in, I'm assuming I'd need to take them a smidge straighter, but then I'd also have to redo measurements which is a bit if a pain.....

Ok, going to bed happy tonight.

USB Bus Conflict- Devialet and Mic Preamp

I am a longtime satisfied Amarra Symphony with IRC user.  I have encountered difficulties using the application in the Devialet environment.

My late 2012 Mac Mini assigns the USB output to the Devialet and the mic preamp input to the Mini to the same hub-regardless of their port connections.  No amount of disconnection and port changes will cure the issue.  The common hub assignment creates a conflict and renders IRC inoperative.

This was not a problem with previous hardware, which used firewire output. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello to Rodney and others,
I finally received my DIRAC DRCC 22D, set up and made a few measurements, changes and tested. Played with different target curves, boosts or cuts to freq.
Here's what I found:
The most obvious change is in the bass notes. Low, clean and beautiful.
But it appears to me there's some loss in detail and clarity in the mids to high. Is this because of the change in overall characteristics or just my perception? Or the DRCC22 puts a layer of tiny veil over it. Your thoughts please people.
I do find that playing with the target curve and changing it too much alters the overall "voicing " of the speakers to a point I don't even recognize them as original.
Thanks
David

You can limit the freq range..try only correcting from 250 hz down .. you retain much of the original sound of the speakers
I have compared a direct signal to running it thru the DDRC 22 in bypass and there was a sight difference as the DDRC upsamples to 24/96 ..you cant change it.. didnt feel it degraded the music .. the 24/96 was sightly more airy.. it was a little "softer" sounding. something I have noticed with dacs that allow you to upsample
But i have to qualify this..as one input used toslink and the other input on my d prem used SPDIF .. not 100% apples with apples

At the end of it all You need to get a target curve you like, its a taste based thing..whatever sounds good to you

After playing around a bit, I found that the auto Target works best. It cleans up the bass and maintains a balanced sound. I just adjust the volume output in the sub to blend the musical taste. I dialled the SAM back to 50%. I don't wanna to mess around with any boost for now.
Now I know and understand, seeing the freq. curves what a balanced or flat response is suppose to look like and sound.
Thanks Rodney.

I find auto target to be good , but I like a little more "welly" in the bass , so bump it up below 130hz or so.
Im also in a fully treated room , a little deader than normal , do I bump up from about 3khz , its flat to 20k.. rather than a slight droop.
Its a pity they did not also hang a parametric eq off the DDRC22 , in software. Makes it real easy to tweak as you listen
I also use the -6db attenuation rather than -10
I play real loud , so -10 often makes the devialets volume deep into the + side....
BUT it's all about taste .. so tune to what makes you happy..there is no right or wrong.
