Expert Pro sound quality

Loudspeakers in the test were all the time B&W 800D3. Cabling was fully Audioquest. My test started with D1000 Pro and after ~1 hour listening I changed to D250 Pro and after ~30min listening to my own D250. In the end I made few quick changes between D250 Pro and D250 to get clearer picture about the overall sound differences.

D1000 Pro: rich, colourful and full sound. Even slightly heavy bass section. I did test with and without SAM. SAM made bass slightly better defined but not much.
D250 Pro: more solid and tight sound but otherwise quite same as D1000 Pro. Maybe D1000 Pro had more "everything", more richer & full-bodied sound but D1000 Pro's bass section was not as good as D250 Pro's and that was really weird. Only explanation I can find to explain the bass difference is the link cable between two units. I didn't test different cables but that would be interesting to test when I have possibility to test D1000 Pro next time (at home).
D250: the difference between D250 Pro and D250 is clear but not groundbreaking. Pro makes everything with more rich colours and gives you better feeling into the music. D250 is more clinical and more straight forward going. I'm happy to notice that even D250 Pro is clearly better amp the "old" D250  doesn't sound bad at all after D250 Pro.

Summary: I will send my D250 to upgrading. But do I want to upgrade to D1000... I need to do the home test before answering into that question.

If You want rich, colourful sound from 250 Please install 7.1.3 firmware on Your 250. Then compare 250 Pro firmware 10.0.2 with Your 250 firmware 7.1.3.

+1!
Would love to hear the results of that.

But then you loose the bass control and accuracy... And that is important to me. 10.0.2 is the first fw with acceptable bass quality in my system.

What kind of overall distortion levels are you observing in this system?

Congrats! More observations will be highly appreciated... Are there special improvements at low levels?

Two things I'd love to learn more about...

1) Description of the sound quality changes between the 200 and the 220 Pro...  what are they and how obvious are they?
2) Is the change more toward what a 400 would bring or is it something quite different?

Basically, I'm wrestling with whether to consider a 200 to 220 Pro upgrade or add a Companion for a D400 (or just 2nd D200 given availability on the used market).   Can't afford to get to a 440 Pro at this time.  My gut says the 220 Pro upgrade is the smart  long-term decision, but only if there is a substantial improvement in SQ.  It ain't cheap.
Devialet 440 Pro (two 220s)- Oracle CD transport - Kuzma Stabi S/Stogi S turntable - Von Schweikert VR-35 speakers - JPS SC3 SCs - PI Audio power conditioning -
Triode Wire Labs ICs and PCs - Roon on NUC 8i7beh running ROCK
