Yes, this should work. I used the optical port of one Phantom when my Dialog optical port was broken (the lid fell of).

By the way, I'm trying to play music via SlimDevices Squeezebox v3 into optical in of one of the Phantoms (both are setup as stereo). This doesn't work despite setting up the optical input of the Phantom. How are you all using optical in? Is it possible to connect to one of the two Phantoms and have them play the music in stereo?

You can definitely connect an optical source to one of you Phantoms and listen to it in stereo (that's what I am doing right now).

Did you set "Autoswitch" on (in Spark) for your Squeezebox's optical connection?

On Spark's main screen, try double-clicking the icon (assigned to your Squeezebox) under "LIVE SOURCES", the Phantoms should start playing it (volume will automatically be set to 35 when you change source so you might have to adjust it).
