After endless weeks of firmware and configuration swapping I was finally happy with 8.1.3 (non beta). But you evil lot have set me thinking that maybe I should give 8.1.3beta a go, with my current 4GB card encoded configurations. To be honest though, I really have had enough of SD card swapping and critical listening, plus all this has genuinely sent me bonkers. I will probably end up trying this, but I think I will leave to mid August at least. We'll probably have 8.1.5 or something by then anyway.......8.1.3 is too hot, with the result that I've had to use tone controls for the first time to dial down the treble. SAM is also unusable on my Akurates - weird, very boomy, hollow sounding bass - so I've switched it off. I guess I could understand where some systems could result in the 8.1.3 beta FW (and by extension 8.1.3 official release) sounding too bright. That is definitely not where my system is/was sitting sonically. Guillaume, no, I didn't. i don't have it. I will PM you about it. I found the difference between 8.1.3 (normal release) and 7.1.3 bigger than I expected in terms not so much of quality but of sound signature. And again, on dark or subdued speakers, 8.1.3 (normal) may be better for some listeners. But 7.1.3 "clicked" with my Gallos. Someone said it better before: 8.x.x is excellent, high-end hifi. 7.1.3 sounds more like the real thing. Much less impressive, yes. But real. Were I a reviewer, I would have written a substantially different comment in both cases. (Both positive: reviewers never post a negative review!) If the beta 8.1.3 is able to keep the naturalness of 7.1.3, then it'll be difficult to improve upon! Definite SAM territory, and easy to correct with a slight dial back. RE: New firmware 8.1.3 - Dimi Pap - 29-Jul-2015 Οbserving the files of both versions 8.1.3 beta and 8.1.3 i find that is exactly the files are the same. How can the sound quality change? Is there something that skips my attention?? RE: New firmware 8.1.3 - Vivialet - 29-Jul-2015 the files are not the same. The ihm_800.hex file of the beta is about 1200 bytes smaller. Only the names are the same. RE: New firmware 8.1.3 - Dimi Pap - 29-Jul-2015 Now I see it. You have right.Thank you very much for the information!!! RE: New firmware 8.1.3 - MusicFirst - 29-Jul-2015 (29-Jul-2015, 22:35)Vivialet Wrote: the files are not the same. RE: New firmware 8.1.3 - Manoet - 29-Jul-2015 I know next to nothing about this sorta thing but thought this might be worth checking out as a key to understanding the hex dilemma. If worthless please pardon the attempt. http://download.cnet.com/HxD-Hex-Editor/3000-2352_4-10891068.html RE: New firmware 8.1.3 - hk6230 - 30-Jul-2015 Thanks, Rufus, for sharing.
