I will probably try some other Chord cables first as my local dealer has them in stock and several people have recommended them. If they're too far behind the Sarum then I will move onto something more exotic. I must admit I like the look of the Paul Pang red cables though, as they will be totally hidden behind my system, I suppose that's not really relevant . The Totaldac cable is the one that intrigues me because the construction is so different.
@rufus - do you think that you would be able to tell the difference between the Chord Silver Plus and Totaldac in a blind test? I don't mean to put you on the spot and it's not a challenge I just wonder how big the differences are and value your opinion.
Our mains power is now back on so I hope to have a nice relaxed session tonight after a very stressful day...
With the Totaldac new out of the packing, possibly no. In fact I was a little worried at first as it sounded slightly worse than the Chord, but quite similar in characteristics. Now, yes - I think I could reliably tell the difference. The Totaldac is really opening out. It's quite soft-sounding and smooth, but so musical (as in tune dem follow-the instruments/melodies musical). I'm really enjoying it and listening over familiar old favourites. And it's only been running for just over a day.
Thanks Rufus.
Just a thought, do you find your system perhaps too smooth with Melco + Totaldac USB + Devialet?
I come from Naim background and they're not smooth in any sense and I found myself thinking last night that maybe Aurender/Chord Sarum/Devialet is just too smooth and 'nice'. Lovely sound but maybe I need a bit more 'edge'...
