From the manual for the above phono stage:
"Connection to the amplifier over S/PDIF
Use optical cable for digital connection to your amplifier. A computer has to be connected with A/D Phono Box S and turned on to activate S/PDIF output."
Seems a but silly to have to connect a computer for the optical output to work. I was thinking to get one of these but that is a deal-breaker for me.
Could this be because the digital section of the box runs off the 5V on the USB bus from the computer?
