Latency and Studio use
#2
(02-Aug-2016, 18:03)ghuinink Wrote: Hi,

I'm using two Silvers in my studio as main monitors, and they are really great at revealing all details in the mix.

But....

The Dialog generates a latency of at least 40ms

That means playing a piano piece on a metronome click or a drum beat is nearly impossible. On 130BPM the signal comes an 8th note later than your keystroke.

What if you split the Tosslink signal and feed both Phantoms an optical signal, bypassing the Dialog?
Wouldn't that reduce the latency significantly?

I really don't care for internet radio and such.

Anybody any ideas on this?

The delay is in the Phantoms themselves. I do not think Dialog introduces delay. Use of Digital Signal Processing, especially for time domain correction necessitates delay. Phantoms are not optimal for real time use unfortunately. See also this thread: http://devialetchat.com/showthread.php?tid=3188
