Interesting.  I wonder if a slight tilt would provide most of the benefit, or put another way how vertical does it need to be for the temp to drop?

I believe one of our members has the Perspex display unit for the Devialet, which holds the D at roughly 60 degrees from horizontal. Maybe they could chime in?
