The First Intelligent Turntable
#3
The groove on an LP is an analogue signal which is considerably equalised, so an analogue device is still needed to read the music. Its output can then be digitised and the correction for the equalisation (RIAA since the 1950s) can be calculated in the digital domain.
This device may be simple but it has no way of isolating the cartridge from picking up unwanted vibration and it will be hard with a design such as this to get speed stability so it probably won't sound that good. All of the defects inherent in the way LPs are made and played are euphonic except speed stability.
