@AlexS. Since disabling the screensaver and only using iTunes with the PC GUI set to 16/44.1, i have not had white noise, including JRiver WASAPI 24bit usage. The last time I had white noise was when using iTunes 16/44.1 with the PC GUI set to 24/192, which is not a particularly sensible thing to do anyway. So it looks to me as if the latest beta AIR, although not 100% bullet proof, is a significant improvement.
