I joined because HK suggested I come over here from the Roon forums to ask Devialet questions. I've been thinking about a Devialet 200. My main use would be to stream to it from Network Share. But, I'm worried based on the forums that it might not be the smooth solution I'm looking for. I don't want to add another streamer into the mix and the literature I've read at the Devialet site leads me to believe that they are abandoning Air for Spark, am I off base?
Hi Rugby, and welcome ….. you've come to the right place for a bit of Devialet advice.
You will probably get a mixture of opinions on this I'm sure, and lots of people have owned a D200 longer than I.
Basically, if you use a PC or Mac as your music player - you can theoretically use Air, via Devialet's application. It can be connected by ethernet or wifi (or both).
It works to varying degrees by all accounts - some users have no issues at all, others - like me - have issues to the point where its unusable in the real world. Your best bet IMO would be to get a home demo, and see if it works in your setup. If you've streamed to it successfully for a week without issue, - especially with high-res files - you're probably going to be OK.
I don't think anyone knows officially if they're abandoning it for Spark/Dialogue or another system, and I doubt you'd get an answer out of Devialet.
In short, if it were me and I wanted a Devialet specifically for streaming to (which I did) I'd definitely go a different route.
