I had one listening session where the soundstage was all messed up and there was a distortion in the top octave. I reloaded the FW (8.0.0) and config files off the Dev website and reinstalled them on my D400s.
Problem solved. It has never happened again.
If you haven't gone this route, you might want to give it a try before swapping out units.
