Some interesting thoughts in the last couple of pages ...
The underlying issue for me -- and perhaps for other D200 owners -- is the potential loss of second-hand value.
I know one might take the view that one ought not to worry about the cash value of one's hi-fi gear; one ought just to enjoy what one has. That's an appealing state of mind, but it doesn't work for me.
I may not intend to sell my D200 now, but I'm conscious that I don't know what the future holds. Maybe my circumstances will change sometime soon (redundancy? divorce? serious illness? God forbid!) and force me to downsize. Or maybe I might decide to switch away from Devialet, either to a different brand or to active speakers (which I am in fact thinking of doing).
So the pricing structure of the upgrades and its implications for second-hand values of non-upgraded D200s could be a real issue for me.
Having said all that, I don't feel aggrieved or resentful towards Devialet. I've hugely enjoyed owning my D200 for the last three years, and I still get a great deal of pleasure from my Phantoms, which I don't plan to sell any time soon.
