I have had mixed experience with burn in.
I have always been a sceptic as to whether it could exist
I bought a D-Premier in the early days, and it sounded just like the one I had had on demo out of the box, no need for burn in. A few weeks after I got it the configurator came on line and Mathieu Pernot came to OAC to show us a few things about it, one of the things he talked about was the ability to go dual mono with another D-Premier. I borrowed a second D-Premier for a demo of dual mono and subsequently bought another. The new system sounded slightly harsh and unpleasant when I started using it, certainly not the improvement I had heard at home with the borrowed one.
I investigated why, and in the end found it was the new D-Premier causing the harshness. Going back to a single amp was superb with my existing one, and poor with the new one, so I returned it as faulty and got another. This next new one sounded fine from new like the first one had.
Whether the second unit would have "burned-in" with time I have no idea since I only had it for a few days.
I had my D-Premiers updated to 240s one at a time, so I could both listen during the update period, and compare the new to the old directly. The updated amps sounded fine straight away.
I eventually part exchanged these 2 amps for an Original d'Atelier which sounds great to me, and I haven't noticed any break in period with them either, unlike some.
So it seems to me maybe individual units are in more need of burn-in than others.
My Goldmund electronics improved notably if left on permanently, as they recommend. I have not noticed such a big change with the Devialet amps I have owned (5 now), and they only take an hour or so to sound at their best IME.
