It's less about the input used than the source used. The people pointing this out, like I did, have experimented and built up knowledge about computer audio. A laptop is one of the worst sources one could imagine, whether it runs from battery power or not. Of course running from battery power provides additional isolation but from a noise point of view most laptops are even noisier when running on battery power as more agressive power saving schemes become active in that mode.
I think it's strange one would use a source like this especially in a very high end system like his. It's a bit like using a nanny to drive a super car around the track to compare lap times to other cars; it's unlikely you'll get the best out of it this way. You'll likely hit the limits of the driver way before those of the car being driven.
