Does your Phantom (Gold) have a hum/buzz?
#1
Hi,
I have a Phantom Gold. LOVE the sound.

However when I plug it in there is a faint, but noticeable humm/buzz. It starts off a little louder and then reduces, but still detectible. If I put my ear to the top of the Phantom I can hear it loud and clear. I can hear it (with my pretty sensitive ears) when I'm about 2 meters away. I can hear it with just the power plugged in, so it is not coming from the Optical cable, Airport, etc. I tried turning off all other circuits in my house so no other device could be interfering, and also tried another outlet, all without luck. Of course once music is playing it is 100% unnoticeable. But if I'm sitting in my living room with the music OFF and I'm within 2 meters, I can hear it clearly.

After lots of back and forth with Devialet, they sent me a replacement. The new unit has the SAME problem. I took it to a local  high-end HiFi shop and we hooked it up to a $2,000 Furman line conditioner. Same problem. The HiFi person suggested that this may be inherent in the speaker and Devialet was not admitting that the problem was with the design, rather than my unit. But hard to imagine they would go thru the expense of sending me a replacement if that was the case.

The guy at the HiFi store said it sounded to him that is was most likely coming from the Phantoms switched-mode power supply. He said it MIGHT be a grounding issue, and could not guarantee that the ground in the stores own power supply was perfect, but hard to image both their store in town and mine both have serious grounding issues.

Can anyone else hear this on your Phantom (Gold) ?
Greatly appreciate help on this one...
Would hate to have to return it.
