@Foxman. FYI, I'm intending to take the N100 back to Paul's either tomorrow or, more likely, monday. So I guess you will be able to borrow it again after that.
I'm sure you know that Aurender offer a remote access service and can connect to your system to analyse what's going on. They offered to do that for me but since the system was working ok and its only a demo unit I decided not to. I'm sure they would offer you the same service.
BTW, I used USB HDD for several reasons: I thought it would be quick and easy; I would be very happy not to use a NAS as part of my hi-fi system any more; and also the Mac I use for music is running an old (and very stable) version of OS X so I couldn't use the AMM software
If the N100 was the same price here as in the US rather than being £1000 more then even with the problems I would probably just buy one and take a chance that they don't recur. As we have to pay a premium then I need to think more about the best way to proceed - an N100H or N100S might be better for me. It's a shame that the N10 has been pitched a such a high price - I saw them advertised at £7,099 in the UK - as that has 4TB internal storage plus a choice of outputs.
