AIR and Mac OS 10.10.4 - improvement ?
#1
A few days ago Apple released OS 10.10.4, which brings big network and wlan changes.

I would like to know what your experiences are regarding to the AIR problems.

Hi Midi, good point and indeed I was streaming music via Air Wifi from my Mac and iTunes all afternoon until now without any problems. Files where all in ALAC quality. I will continue testing 24/96 hires files as well later.

In the meantime I listened to "Stereo Hörtest Edition Vol. 3" all tracks in 96k and 192k. I a happy to tell you that there were no problems, no dropouts or any other issues, just great sound.

Apple has changed their network service from Discoveryd used since OS 10.10 to the older mDNSresponder (uses before 10.10). They could´t solve the problem with 10.10.1-10.10.3 updates, so they decided to go back to mDNSresponder. They hope to solve their known network and wlan problems with this change.

So with the 10.10.4 update you will use the stable technology from the past. So I think this could have impacts on AIR too.

You mean it might have been an Apple problem and not a Devialet one. Heresy surely.

No I don't (as you can see with the Windows AIR problems too). I think there are reasons on both sites. But perhaps AIR was developed on the older network service.

One of the problem (drop outs while the network is perfect: 300 Mbps) I'm encountering with AIR on MAC OS 10.9 is definitely an Apple problem. Similar problems have been encountered with sound cards connected through Firewire as well as USB and have been reported to Apple for more than 6 or 7 years.

I've had MacBookPro AIR problems for as long as I can remember.

10.10.4 makes no difference for me - still get perpetual disturbances.
