Another AIR WN's culprit
#1
For the past few weeks (with 10 days in between when I have a break), AIR is cracking up on me. I was trying hard to find the culprit(s) and today, I found it and it is fixed. My AIR is sounding great again as before.

Beside sound cracking up, I also noticed on the Devialet AIR's setting panel showing the AIR-ETH and AIR-WIFI keep flickering. In fact, even the volume display was flickering. I had took out devices one by one and replacing them, including changing Ethernet cablings. At the end, the main culprit was the main DHCP router. I found out only when I have difficulty accessing my router setting page. After replacing the router, everything is working smoothly again.

Hope this may help anyone who is having the same issue with AIR.

Thanks, I do think most AIR problems can be lead back router / bandwidth issues and settings.

Seriously, I've almost gave up on AIR thinking my AIR enjoyment has finally come to an end. In fact, my USB cable was taken out getting ready to replace AIR. And my mind started thinking about iPurifier, iUSBpower, Regen, etc. But, my 'never say die' attitude finally allow me to identify the problem. Lucky me.

Agree! Bandwidth? With ethernet? Not very likely...

On my system / network I can stream 1080i TV with surround sound, with zero issues. From the same router / network switch, AIR stutters.

Is there a SQ difference between USB Vs AIR?

The general consensus is that with a standard PC or Mac, AIR  sounds better than USB. (assuming AIR is working) However, with a well modified 'audio optimised' PC, or a better quality source such as a Melco or similar, USB can sound better than AIR.

My experience is that USB has better sound quality, but it depends very much on implantation. I've never had a stable AIR, be it ethernet or wifi. The little I've heard via AIR is very good though, so if AIR was usable to me I'd probably use it more. I mostly use Linux devices for playback. As long as AIR is not available for Linux I will use other paths and USB is very good here.

I see. AIR was stable when streamed from iTunes. ETH/Wifi.

USB - not stable for me as I have stupid cable. Ordered AQ jitterbug and cable.

Now it's AirPlay : AE >Toslnk> Devialet.
Confused- Like Melco, Antipodes are primarily into USB out
