Astra - Hana SH Cartridge
#1
I just took delivery of an Astra, and I need some help with setting up my cartridge on my Technics turntable.

I don't fully understand the parameters required in the configurator.

My cartridge is a Hana SH, and has the following specifications. I would appreciate any help with what details I should enter into the configurator to best use this cartridge.

Cartridge type MC ( recommends use as MM)
Output Level 2mv/1kHz
Impedance 130 / 1kHz
Load Impedance 47

Any help and direction will be gratefully appreciated

I'd suggest this configuration as a starting point:
  • cartridge type: MM
  • channels: stereo
  • max level: 2 mV rms
  • loading High Ω, 100 pF

As mentioned in the cartridge specifications, you might want to adjust the capacitive loading (pF) to fine-tune the high-frequency response.

The Expert series amplifiers have an "auto wi-fi standby" option which is usually a good thing to enable as it reduces the possibility of "chirping" noises in the phono signal caused by interference from the wi-fi transmitter.  Not sure whether the Astra has this, but that might be worth checking (it's under Advanced Settings in the phono configuration section of the Expert configurator).

Hope that helps!

That's great - glad you're enjoying it!  (I have a Hana too and love it.)
