Magico A5
#41
I’m curious about adding a subwoofer to a Devialet 1000 + Magico A5 setup. I’m hoping to get more impact when listening at lower to medium volumes. It seems that the REL S/510 and Rythmik F12s are often considered a good match. Wondering if anyone in the past few years has experimented with either option? (I understand that having two subs would be nicer, but plan to start with one and perhaps add a second at a later date).

I tried, maybe a year ago, a REL S 510 after a T 7X, and after several days and test positioning, every time I was satisfied with the sound the sub was already cut off. It didn't work here, not even to my ears, at least. My room is square and complicated, and I later discovered that the main problem was with the old cables I was using.
I think you need to give it a try and it will probably be a good move in your case considering the equipment, and in my opinion REL is the option.
Good luck.

In my opinion REL is not the way to go. Get a sub with variable phase. It’s the only way to get proper integration. Unless you have heard the difference, you could think you have good bass, but once you have the phase in line with the mains, only then you realise the improvement.
