Cartridges and phono settings
#61
@theaudioguru - I've never even considered running my Cadenza on high ohms. So an interesting post from yourself, I'll certainly give this a try when I get some time!

@Confused
Yeah my dealer recommended trying it and it worked really well for me.
I did play with the power uvms settings , going lower than 400 gave me more volume and body but i wasn't too sure if it was wise to mess with?
All tips welcome!

After watching the digital input on Presonus Studio One I had to adjust the the voltage from 2500μV to 3000μV to get the digital clipping in control on my loudest EP.

Of course that made a major sound improvement as well.

My cartridge could just be hotter then spec, or 20% over cartridge value might be a safe margin for everyone to use. We should collect some more data if users have DAWs.

Cartridge outputs are normally specified for 0dB=5cm/sec (at 1kHz iirc) but plenty of records have a higher level than this recorded on them, so one needs to check whilst playing one's most heavily modulated record. I have heard +8dB to be a common max modulation level.
One doesn't strictly need a DAW, the input flashes red on the display if digital clipping of the ADC is approached. I have used this feature to set gain of all my analogue inputs.

I've got the Zu version of the Denon DL-103 and I'm using the settings:
MC, 400μV rms, High ohm, 100pf, 1976 RIAA, 96khz.

However, I really have no idea what the pF should be. All I have is the data that came with the cartridge. see attached image.
