Reactor 900 does not compare to the Phanton Silver.
#1
Hi guys,

I want to share some thoughts to help some of the new guys who are conciderinf the reactor or the Phantom Silver in specific. I think that actually any of the phantoms apply to this.

First these things get Hot!! The reactor has its heat sink more exposed and there for you will notice it more. It gets hot to the point that I would not put this think within the reach of a small child as they could get hurt. Now they are suppose to modulate power output vs heat. The phantom Silver also get very hot but not as a bad and the reactor. I guess this is the trade off by going with something this powerfull in such a small package.

Audio
I can tell you there is a noticeable bass difference from the Reactor 600 to the 900.
But the jump from the Reactor 900 to the Phantom Silver is next level really. The punch you get at high volumes is unreal. Yes I know it’s lie another £600 but if you have a large room you will fell like you want bigger bass impact. Please don’t get me wrong the Reactor is crazy good FOR ITS SIZE.

Mono vs Stereo
Some of you might argue that 2 reactors are better than a single Silver. I would say this is more dependant of the size of your rom as the reactors might struggle to fill the room with banging bass and the kids are a little forced.

To wrap this up I want to say I’m not a audio specialist. But my ears are very good at noticing the sound differences and I can tell you if you have space and want volume you need to go with the phantoms.

Not sure you need to go with the Golds tho. Them things are bound to get stupid hot and you will be able to cook your breakfast on them.

Interesting take - thanks for posting.

My 600 pair and my 900 pair never get hot. I do notice the difference in bass between the two pairs though.

Thanks for the sharing.

So you own a pair of each?

I've been thinking if a pair of 600 will be enough or do I need to get more punch with a pair of 900 ... then I am thinking if a pair of Classic will be even better Big Grin

I own both. The silver sound more open and go deeper, indeed they have more punch. But the reactor has more definition in the bass and better stereo imaging and depth. I can say the silver are better overall but not much better. The reactors are playing in our living room because they look a lot better, the silver look huge beside them. My wife is much happier with the reactors. But that's personal (the silver looked tiny beside the kef reference they replaced).

My reactors dont get that hot at all while playing, in standby the silver give more heat.
2 Phantom silver, 2 reactor 900

Yup, bought the 600s first, then tried the 900 for another room.  Very pleased.  Premiers are just too big for my taste.

I'll have to defer to MrSinister for how the Reactors compare to the Premiers.

Thanks for your feedback! It kind of convince me that Reactor 900 is the choice. Obvious to get against a 600 but a little more subtle against a Classic Smile

Size and price premium are my concerns for the Premiers!

Happy to hear that the Reactor 900 in stereo is the choice to go!
