Devialet, Deezer (and MQA?)
#1
Deezer has today announced that its top tier streaming offering, Deezer HiFi, will in future no longer be available solely via Sonus, but will also be available via other brands including Devialet. Extract from Deezer press release refers:

"Formerly referred to as Deezer Elite, the newly rebranded Deezer HiFi will now, over the next few months, be extending its offering to Sony, Samsung, Yamaha, Bang & Olufsen, Onkyo, Pioneer, AudioPro & Devialet, through Google Cast support or direct integration into partners’ device applications. Previously available exclusively through Sonos, this expansion will enable a greater number of music-loving audiophiles, who prefer the lossless quality of FLAC (free lossless audio codec) to listen to their favourite music the way the artist intended."

We knew that something like this was coming, because in the Devialet announcement of 13th July, it was indicated that Deezer was planned. Perhaps more interesting to Devialites, is that in a separate announcement, MQA said that it had reached an agreement with Deezer. Extract from their press release refers:

"The deal will allow MQA’s technology to be integrated into Deezer’s platform, as well as across the service’s ecosystem of hardware partners and connected devices. While MQA’s commercial roll-out is still in its early stages, both companies already share several partners, including leading audio brands such as Bluesound, LG, Onkyo, MOON by Simaudio and Sony."

If you cast your mind back to Devialet's announcement of 13th July, at the end of the list of pending developments were three dots. Could the three dots be MQA? This would be a logical development since MQA now has quite a bit of traction in the higher quality end of the streaming market with TIDAL already offering it and with HDTracks  due to use MQA in their new streaming sevice due to be launched later this year.

As a Roon user employing room correction via it's DSP, the only way this would be useful to me is if Roon re-inserts the MQA flag in the stream after 'first unfold' and DSP treatment. I'd hate to be left out of the game because I use DSP on the stream.

Interesting. We've used Deezer Elite because the FLAC quality is good and the music selection is quite broad. If I can get away from the Sonos hardware requirement, that will be good. Modded by W4S the sound quaility of the Connect is good, but the Sonos interface is annoying for me. Be interesting to see how this services is actually implemented on various hardware products, esp. the Devialet.

I've dumped my old Sonos Connect and replaced it with a Bluesound Node 2. And added iFi SPDIF iPurifier to the toslink/coax output. And, I'm excited about Deezer Hifi for other platforms other than Sonos, too.

I did the same in my office system and replaced it with Bluesound Powernode 2. I've just sold my Sonos Connect amp, but it's Qobuz for me all the way and hopefully they will eventually integrate with Roon. On another note (no pun intended) I still think a local bit perfect rip on my Innuos sounds better on my LAN than a 16bit streamed file on any platform I've heard so far and it's the same for locally stored Hi-Res files.
