Even with auto-dim enabled, the displays do light up again when you adjust the volume or the input changes sample rates. Then it turns off again.

yes, I know that of course. But after startup the dispays go off and stay off. As soon as music plays the on/off cycle starts. After about 20 seconds the display goes on again and off after the delay has expired. I also tried removing the wifi and ethernet config, works but no difference.
Maybe it is some other configuration difference...I'm using sweet room e.g.
For now I keep the displays always on.

Btw., I also tried the master config with the compagnon, it behaves the same. So it is not an issue with the amp.
Before I removed the wifi cards auto dim was working fine.

I also have the Wi-Fi cards removed, and the auto dim is working for me on both units. I only have XLR and Optical 1 inputs enabled. When I set up auto-dim on either input, it works and turns off the display on both units.
Do you have Ethernet enabled? Do both displays switch on or only the master / companion?
In my configuration files, the relevant section looks like this. It is set per input, and set on both Master and Companion config files:
"XLR":{
"BACKLIGHT_MAX_LEVEL":100,
"_auto_dim_timeout":3,
"BACKLIGHT_TIMEOUT":3,
Here are some ideas to try:
In the web configurator: In the remote-control settings, disable "App Remote Control". In the Wifi settings, remove your wifi ssid and password configuration.
I also tried deleting these lines in the Master config file:
"WIFI_CONFIG":{
"DEVICE_NAME":"My Devialet",
"SSID":"",
"KEY":"",
"DHCP":"ON",
"IP_FIXED":"192.168.0.77",
"ADHOC":"OFF",
"IP_MASK":"255.255.255.0",
"IP_GATEWAY":"192.168.0.1",
"IP_DNS":"",
"ADHOC_CHANNEL":6
},
"ETHERNET_CONFIG":{
"DHCP":"ON",
"IP_FIXED":"192.168.0.77",
"IP_MASK":"255.255.255.0",
"IP_GATEWAY":"192.168.0.1",
"IP_DNS":""
},
I also changed the USB_INIT to OFF on both Master and Companion and it works fine. Sounds more open too.
"CONTROL_CONFIG":{
"USB_INIT":"OFF",
If you want to manually edit the config files, you need to update the CRC checksum using the procedure described here:
manually manipulating dp_cfg.txt (devialetchat.com)
What about WIFI_STANDBY here?
"DEFAULT_PARAMETERS":{
"VOLUME":-40,
"SOURCE":"USB",
"WIFI_STANDBY":"OFF",
"PHONO_R_IN":0,
"PHONO_C_IN":0,
"PHONO_R_IN_COAX34":0,
"PHONO_C_IN_COAX34":0
},

This seems to be for the feature: Automatically turn the WiFi off when the Phono input is activated. (Factory Setting: disabled)
I tried it in the web configurator and it toggles this setting.

Okay, I just noticed that this also happens to my system, exactly as you described. The Master display comes on for a few seconds, every 20 seconds or so.

Ok, so leaving the display on is the best solution then. The improvement of sq is simply too big to revert it.

So you do hear too a noticeable improvement in sound quality when both master and companion have permanently display on/100% ?

I put the Wi-Fi cards back into both units, but with the antennas disconnected. Now the Master display stays off with auto-dim.
It still sounds good, about the same as with the cards removed. Might be imagining it, but I think it sounds very slightly brighter with the Wi-Fi cards inside.

Photo of the Core Infinity board with WiFi antennas disconnected.
Interestingly, the Ethernet port has a galvanic isolation chip (the HALO chip).
