New product launch?
The quantum leap in performance from a D400 to a D800 is coherent with my experience with the 'one box' devialet. I tried twice in A/B test my 250 vs a 200 and the difference was significant even with speakers that can be easily driven by 50W class A amps. The way this was explained to me is that the 250 has a superior casing / electrical supply management. My hypothesis is that the 250 is the jewel in the crown and maybe for a number of reasons (expectation biases / business interest etc) there's has been a stronger focus both from D's aficionado's and the company itself on dual mono's.

I'm confused , from what I can see online Devialet won't have a successor to the 250 . am I wrong ? no more one box powerful option ?

Here it is!

I agree that it is strangely absent from Devialet's website.  However, it was advised at the 1000 Pro launch event that it continues as a current model.  I am curious as to why it hasn't grown up to be a 280 Pro or something, it is the only model in the range not to get a power hike.

indeed, it is very confusing with 250 pro ad its power rating..

maybe guys from OxfordAudio can clarify this for us here..

It is strange, with the new higher capacity power supply and copper base plate I'm sure they could have increased power. There must be some internal or marketing reason for them not to do so. Maybe a 440 pro is more profitable for them and they want to make it the obvious choice for customers?

It is likely that the profit margin on the 250 Pro is higher, with one set of electronics and one case, even if the case is supposedly more expensive to manufacture when compared to the 220 Pro case.

Against the 200, the 250 reportedly sounds warmer and has better timbre (or at least that is the case for 400 vs 800).   The idea must be that a prospective buyer will be "encouraged" to purchase the 1000 Pro (with better profit margins compared to 440 Pro) instead of considering a 250 Pro (even if that owner may upgrade to a 1000 Pro in future) should one prefer the warmer sound but could do without the additional power.

Of course, with a dual mono, the future upgrade costs would be higher.  All things being equal (no change in casing), more profit from offering two sets of replacement electronics Smile

Still, one does not know if there will be a new casing for the next generation but, dual mono = two new cases to upgrade/part exchange too Smile
