Nvidia shield users?
I just stumbled across a reference that the Nvidia shield supports hi res music over hdmi and usb. So I’m curious if anyone has tried this device via the usb connection to their devialet for Tidal streaming? And if so, what were your thoughts on the sq?

High-resolution audio playback up to 24-bit/192 kHz over HDMI and USB
High-resolution audio up-sample to 24-bit/192 kHz over USB
Audio support: AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, WAVE, AMR, OGG Vorbis, FLAC, PCM, WMA, WMA-Pro, WMA-Lossless, DD+/DTS (pass-through),
I've got the shield I just have HDMI to my TV and then optical from tv out to phantom. It sounds great but not sure what resolution I'm getting from my LG tv optical out. I have tv set to PCM.
Maybe there is a better way to connect but the sound is great and the interface for Tidal on Shield is pretty cool.

Thanks Jon for the feedback.

I actually had some time to play around with the shield to my expert 200 via usb cable out for the audio. The sound quality was fine. It didn’t blow me away. The Tidal app on the shield only said HiFi,and  no bitrate detail was provided.

For transparency of my review, I was listening through old b&w bookshelf’s. My focal floor standers are due to arrive Friday. My speaker cable at the moment is local hardware 16 gauge “lamp cord” quality so I’m not really expecting to be blown away. I’m mostly trying to determine my different source options:
1. Oppo bdp-103 - for cd’s, sacd’s and tidal app using spdif optical out and rca/analog line out to devialet
2. AppleTv 3rd gen - for airplay streaming of Apple Music, Amazon music and Tidal apps on the iPad. Using Toslink out from atv to devialet.
3. NVIDIA Shield- for Tidal and Amazon apps that reside on the shield device and connected to the devialet via usb. I had high hopes the SQ would be an obvious improvement over the other options based on the stats posted on the Nvidia website for the shields specs.

As I mentioned, the shield was ok. All 3 options were fine. If I had to rank based on my time spent so far, I would go in order from best to worse:

None of my interconnects are hq cables and could be part of my reluctance to say one output or streaming source is better than the other.I am just using what I found in my old cable box.
1.oppo analong out. RCA - acoustic research brand
2. Oppo digital out. SPDIF. Also AR
3.Air play to ATV Toslink out. Monster cable
4. Nvidia USB out. No brand pc usb cable.

I’m in the process now of registering on the website to be able to demo cables. I plan/ hope to be able to try all this again once my Focals and better speaker cables arrive. And then I will get some decent interconnects from different price ranges to see if I can find a clear winner for a cable brand.
