Optical volume control
#1
Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to control the current volume of my Silver Phantom when using optical input? I am currently running DOS1 and outputting sound from my LG TV using an optical cable; however, when changing the volume level on the TV the Phantom does not react. Is it possible for the speaker to react to volume setting on the TV? Is this a feature that could be supported if I upgrade to DOS2?

Thanks!

Hi.
The problem is your TV, it outputs a fixed volume to the Phantom. See if you can find a setting in the menus making it variable. If that's not possible, use the Spark app to adjust the volume.

Thanks! Although, I believe my TV outputs volume since the controls are not greyed out... I am not sure how to exactly check if this information is encoded.
Could it be the fact that I do not think my speaker is in a direct-optical mode? I wanted to try switching it to direct mode, but I am not sure what is the procedure on DOS1.

The Phantom will play what you feed it, the signal from your TV is fixed level for sure. If you use the optical direct mode you will lose the ability to control the volume with Spark, and the Phantom volume would be 100% all the time. Could be interesting watching TV at 105 dB.

If you're still in doubt, you should read the user manual for your TV.

My LG TV does not attenuate the Digital audio signal, so it's fixed do 100%.
Buy the Devialet remote, it's very useful - not only for TV watching, also for listening audio.

Can be found on ebay relatively cheap from time to time.
