What exactly is this concern? I've been using a Pi2 for a few months and haven't noticed any issues. I've seen this alluded to in places but never a proper explanation of what the issue might be for our usage (e.g. endpoint).

There are sometimes feint pops and crackles using some players and at some sample rates. I had it with squeezelite.  Many attribute this to a shared USB/ethernet bus as using a specialist board like the hifiberry DAC+ or IQAudio, seems to fix it.  Although its obviously tricky to get to the bottom of it as there's a lot of open source going on, and it is after all a $35 device not designed for audio..  That said, I also tried Volumio, and never had any issue, so it may well just be sloppy programming.

IQAudio boards (which also include a DAC and unbelievably a 35WPC amp all within the Pi size box for £55) are getting phenomenal reviews however. Im sort of intrigued to try and see if it could power my floorstanders!  I believe some people are! And they're RoonReady!

Interesting, I've never had anything like that, with any of the various distributions I've played with, including volumino. It's genuinely been one of the most stable and fuss free products I've ever bought. I bought it as a temporary measure as air is worthless junk in my house and so far would be quite happy to keep using it as is.

What model of Pi is yours?

Mine's a Pi2 - (whatever the latest was before the recent 3).

Hunting around for fixes I did see a fair few occurrences of this issue on the web, and a few on the Roon forums too now. But I never really got into it, as at the time squeezelite (via the squeezeplug.eu download(?) I can't quite remember now) didn't really offer anything useful as I didnt want to get into running LMS. This was quite a while ago. Now they can be used with Roon I should have tried again, but I thought I'd just hold out for RoonSpeakers….
