SAM - any open baffle speaker?
#1
Has SAM been profiled for any open baffle speakers or are they all only boxed speakers?

Thanks!

Going to http://en.devialet.com/speakers shows that http://en.devialet.com/speakers/jamo/jamo-r909 have been profiled.

They qualify as open baffle by my books, but yours may be differing.

By the way the bass extension measure by SAM on those speakers is impressive: from 96 Hz without SAM down to 16 Hz with SAM.

I own a pair of Jamo R909s that are fed by my D400s.
They are definitely an open baffle design.
The SAM on the Jamos is very effective and well worth it.

I can't seem to find the info which should be a simple google. Curious if the R909 is still in production. It is above my price range but nonetheless, am curious. Thanks!

The only open baffle brand that is affordable enough for me currently that is SAM matched is Martin Logan. But the bass unit on those are traditional boxed speakers.

I am very interested in open baffle speakers. There are few good options available like Spatial, Hawthorne, some Austrlalian I cannot remember the name of now, and of course many DIY based on Linkwitz model.
Given the fact Devialet introduced SAM lab, this could be very interesting.
...I wish I could demo SAMed R909, this could be magical.

The panel portion of Martin Logans is electrostatic not open baffle.  Open baffle refers to the drivers normally found in box speakers but mounted on an open baffle (no box) instead. Electrostatic and planar-magnetic panel speakers, while open, are typically referred to by their design technology.
