Speaker suggestions
#1
Dear all,
I'm thinking to buy a new speakers, bookshelf or slim floorstanding (I have a small room, around 20-25 sqm).
What I'm looking for:
- placing near rear wall
- good sound for jazz and rock/blues music
- budget (to buy used) around 2500-3000 euro
- design speakers, stilysh to match devialet style (I know, it's very subjective, but try....)
- SAM ready (is it so important?)

Thank you for your answers.
Alberto.

KEF Reference 1, good combo with 220. 200 should also be fine

Speakers are a very personal choice I think, but there is nothing wrong with compiling a few suggestions. One speaker that I think fits your criteria is the PMC PB1i. It’s just about within your budget, and it actually has slightly bigger bass drivers than the more expensive Fact 12 that has replaced it.

I heard a a pair a while ago with Bryston amps and liked them a lot. They would make a great second hand buy I think. That said, the KEF reference 1 as suggested above is also good, the choice is yours!

For placement near a rear wall, pick a speaker that either has a bottom or front mounted port, or is infinite baffle (unported).  If you use a speaker with a rear mounted port, you will have problems with bloated bass if you try to use it too close to the back wall.

Hi Alberto,

I would suggest Focal Sopra No. 1 or Wilson Benesch Vertex! I know both over your budget, but I've hear both and I've enjoyed it so much! Devialet with Focal or WB is a dream, for me alsoSmile KEF is not bad bud a bit boring and mainstream!

Regards,
Stephan

If you like Focal but want to not break the bank, you could look at the Aria line. Shares some of the kanta tech (flax cones) and has a nice upscale look with real leather and wood veneer. I would say the Aria line is their entry level into their more “upscale” lines. You should be able to buy their 936 or 948 new at your budget. The 948 may in fact be too much for your space, so you could get the 936 or even smaller 926 floor stand model, or their 906 bookshelf.

Of course if you went used, you could probably find their next higher level Electra model in your budget.

I like that the Focals are made completely in France, so it should be able to speak fluently with your devialet. ?

Adding to the above post, you could also give a try to the PMC’s 20.24

I’m a self confessed speaker addict and have had just about every mainstream type you can imagine. I would strongly recommend looking at Elac speakers, they tend not to get press like some other big brands but their JET tweeters are stunning.  I currently have the Elac fs407 and pmc 26, no contest the Elac is a better speaker and downward ported so would suit your corners better.

Sorry one thing I forgot to add which is something I personally think ELAC speakers do very well is they perform well at low volumes as well as high, many speakers I have owned in the past were fantastic at high volumes but really lacked any life at all at lower volumes.  Sorry just further food for thought.
