Upgrading for home theatre
#1
Today I have 3 phantom golds, with the three Dante sticks for my left, right and centre. And 4 phantom customs for the rears and top fronts. I’m driving everything with a Bluestream SW42DA, which can only support 2 more channels.

I’ve just bought 2 phantom 108 pearl/silvers.

My plan is to replace front left and right with these, move my existing ones to be rear left and right, and move those two customs to be rear heights. And I’ll get the new stands and two more Dante sticks.

So the end result:

Front centre: phantom 1 gold
Front left and right: phantom ultimate 108 light pearl
Rear left and right: phantom 1 gold
Height front left and right and rear left and right: phantom customs

Does this seem like it will all make sense? I believe all the phantom ultimate 108s have the same insides, just different finishes.

Thoughts?

I think it makes sense, but i haven't moved beyond the traditional 5.1 configuration for any of my setups. I've always tried to maintain the same speaker configuration for the left/center/right speakers so that there is a seamless audio transition when the audio pans between them... i'm not sure how much of a difference you'll hear by having a gold for the center and ultimates for left/right. One other thing to consider is a VOG speaker? I'm told that this should be fairly beefy...

Yeah, the centre not matching is my main concern. I’m out of channels, living room, and WAF so no VOG for me. Smile

From my supplier:

"I just received a message from Devialet that the new Ultimate 108 customer version doesn’t have an optical-only mode. You would need the custom version of the Phantoms which isn’t available in the Ultimate until next year. If it's to go onto a Dante system, you either need to buy the legacy version of the Phantom 1 or wait until the custom version of the Ultimate comes out. This will likely be Q3 next year."

This is hugely concerning. Has anyone else heard anything to the contrary?

I swear... I can't understand how they go backwards... I bet if someone places a large enough order, then they will be able to get the "key" for optical direct mode. I can't believe they would not include a low latency configuration at launch.
