What World Cup anthem are you listening to tonight?
#1
Apologies to @Eddye for stealing and corrupting the thread title from what remains the most popular thread on this forum.  I somehow doubt this thread will have the same longevity, but I thought it might be a bit of fun.  It might even offer a chance to test the AirPlay feature of your CI equipped Pro's, with a bit of YouTube streaming from your iPad.

Anyway.  You may have noticed that the world cup has commenced.  In England, as in many countries, this is usually accompanied by some kind of "World Cup Anthem".  These can be "official" tracks like the very fine "World in Motion", produced by New Order and featuring some very fine rapping from the 1990 England World Cup Squad.  In other years it may be an unofficial song that captures the imagination of the nation, a fine example of this is Fat Les' (Keith Allen & Blur's Alex James) "Vindaloo". (1998)  This not only became a huge hit, but was also very controversial, deemed by some as harking back to dark days of England hooliganism.  I recall a Keith Alan interview at the time when he made a quip about being amused by the concept of racist England football fans chanting "Vindaloo", which has to be some sign of multiculturalism.  At the end of the day, it was just plain catchy and good fun.

Back to the official songs, arguably the greatest of all time was "Three Lions", with lyrics from David Baddiel & Frank Skinner and music by the Lightning Seeds.  This started life as a song to celebrate the European Championship coming to England in 1996, but has been periodically updated for subsequent World Cup tournaments, with the number of "years of hurt" updated in line with the arrow of time since the last victory in 1966.

Anyway, enough pointless history waffle, now to 2018.  It would appear that the top tune to cheer on the England squad this year is this:

Utterly appalling and infectiously catchy in equal measure..... You decide Huh

So what World Cup anthem are you listening to in your corner of the World tonight? Shy

Well, the Kick Song may indeed be utterly appalling, but it appears to work. A 2:1 victory after an extra time goal, can’t be a coincidence can it?

This thread is rather less popular than I anticipated I have to say. Maybe everyone is busy watching football rather than replying to stupid threads of Devialet Chat? Maybe this is just a pointless thread? It could be.

Anyway, the Kick song has been updated for Heavy Metal fans, oh yes. So in anticipation of another fine victory by the England boys tomorrow, I offer you this:

Very bad. The kick song appears to have lost its power tonight. Maybe a jitter or leakage loop issue?

Hey happy people of Devialet Chat.

It is time to resurrect this long forgotten thread.

YouTube links welcome.

Note that this thread was an utter failure last time around. Will it fair any better in '22? I doubt it, but being an England fan I shall remain optimistic, after all, you have to be optimistic if you are an England fan.

Congratulations!
I lived that final as if it were my country defending the title and I was very happy for South Africa.

Oi you lot.   Angry

Excuse me! What is going on here?

This is a football music thread, and it appears to have been corrupted by Rugby type things. Outrageous!

To make matters worse, an associate of mine gave me these last week:

For some reason he thought it was utterly hilarious to give me this particular brand of beer. I have no idea why, but it seemed to give him great joy.

I tried a couple last night, not too bad actually.

Anyway, only seven months to Euro 2024. Maybe someone will post a tune when the time comes.
