Which one for B&W 804/805 Diamond?
#1
My current system are THULE PR350BV, THULE PA350B and B&W XT4, but I'm very interested in a Devialet product because of the all-in-one amplifier.

My plan is to get a Devialet product within a few months and sell my amps from THULE, but I can't desire if I should go for the 120 or 200.

I'm considering the B&W 805 or 804 Diamond next year to replace my B&W XT4. Do you think the Devialet 120 have enough juice for the smaller Diamond series or should I go for the 200? If I want a sub-out, the obvious choice is the 200 model, but I don't know. I have read good reviews about SAM, which should give more bass.

I will use it for music and bluray movies.

Sorry for my bad english Blush

Aim high.... Buy a 120, you will always be thinking at least of the 200. Get the 200, you have a 200, and you always have the option to go up the the 400. Even if it is in many, many, years time and you get the "companion" 200 cheap second hand, it still remains an option.

Plus, the B&W's are more than good enough to deserve the 200 at least.

I heard 200 with 805D with SAM on. Nice sound. Really. I don't like 805D too much as a speaker, but SAM added a lot of nice lower midrange plus an extra octave in bass. SAM did a very good job for 805D. Much better than for 800D or 802D.

Now the 120 offers the Sub Out as an option, I think I'll try both of the 120 and 200.

Hi Mixart

Did you go forward with purchasing the 120 or 200? I just purchased the 120 but am having the Sub Out board added.

Did you go that route with the Sub Out board or perhaps, if anyone else can chime in on the value of that board option with their subs.

Thanks in advance.

I heard 200 with 805D. It sounded really nice with SAM on. SAM for 805D is MUST HAVE not an option.
Best Regards.

Hi Moreno, I'm thinking of getting the 802 diamonds to use with my devialet 400.
Have you heard the 802 diamond paired with devialet? Any observations?
thanks

Hi guys,

Great to see devialet users talking about their configs !

I've had the opportunity to hear a Gato DIA-400 with the 805d and it was really impressive (I've not paied attention to the cables used), the sound was detailed but still "musical".

As my budget is not extensive, I looking at the 120, so I really need feedbacks to understand if 120 + 805D (only 88db) can make it (the Gato is 2x 400W...)

So before dreaming, what do you think (I can't afford a Devialet 200, the Gato is 4200€)...

Many thanks for your help !

Hi ledesc and welcome to Devialet Chat!  Smile

In truth that's a tricky one... and I suppose the only way to decide will be to listen to both. I've read some positive reviews of the Gato integrated amps and no doubt the 805Ds will benefit from the extra power that the DIA-400 provide (400W).

At the same time they are pure class D and you might just prefer the sound that you get from Devialet's ADH. On top of that you have SAM which I'm told really enhances the 805Ds.

What are you currently using?

Actually, I'm preparing to move in a 'brand new' flat by the end of the year (that's why the budget is limited for now) and I got rid of my old stuff (nof WAF enough...) NAD C370, C542 and Focal 726, far from what I plan to buy Wink

A Gato DIA-250 + 805d is almost 8000€
A Gato DIA-400 + 805d is almost 9000€
... and a 120 only + 805d is about 9500€ ! +2000€ to go for a 200 ....

And my wife knows now The Devialet 120 + Atohm GT1 SE config (100% WAF) is 7000€ 'only', that's why I want to be sure the 805d will be well driven by the 120 as it's a lot of money for me Smile

My new room will be 36m2 (387 square feet) opened to hall/corridor, may be to much for 120 and 805d ?

I will not be able to listen to a Devialet + B&W 805d because where I live, the devialet dealer is more a place for AV configs than HIFI... and not friendly for demo (not sure they distribute B&W by the way).

Do we have 120 + 805d owners on the chat ?
