1. It is rated at 24/96. How does this affect the source if it is at a higher rate, say 24/192?
2. Does this mean that Devialet will up convert to 24/192 after the DDRC box?
3. Where exactly does this unit fit in the chain, between PC and Devialet?
4. What is the issue with input/source selection that you will need and extra USB streamer($35) that Rodney has suggested?
May be these questions will become clearer once I dip my hands into this.

The ddrc will take 24/192 and downsample it to 24/96 , it will ALWAYS put out 24/96 , no matter what input signal.
Devialet will not upsample after this

The DDRC does not have a usb input , only optical , spdif and AES , so if you want to use the usb out of your computer , you need the ministreamer to convert usb to spdif

Path is pc/ddrc/devialet

Im not sure whether the ministreamer will also allow 24/192 like the DDRC 22 does. Never tried it..

As to SQ.. the up/downsampling etc is almost totally irrelevant due to the massive improvement dirac gives.. its like 100x more potent than messing with sample rates.
Thanks Rodney. OK I'll have to order the little $35 usb streamer.
I figured the room correction will do more to improve the sound than just up/down sampling. Just never found one that fits my bill until what I found here in this thread. Thanks to you.

One more question: why doesn't the Devialet up-sample it again? I thought it does so whatever input is used. Perhaps I'm missing something here in undersatanding the digital domain.

I was looking at ROON audio setting I didn't see any option of 24/96 except that of DSD.

Are you using the $35 dollar USB streamer option to alleviate the output default issues?

Rodney's the Dirac expert - he certainly helped me get going with it!

But if you're using a Mac mini (or any Mac) you could go toslink straight into the Dirac box? (It's in the headphone socket). Then you wouldn't need anything initially except a cable.

Or if the mini's your only source, run Dirac there and then you have up to 192?

But as Rodney says, Dirac will change the SQ more than those factors. That said I'm old school so I still try and preserve as much as I can with the kit I've got.

As an aside, I read the Devialet upsamples everything internally to PCM 40/384 anyway, including DSD? Not that there's anything we can do about it, its just how it works.
I was going to mention that toslink out of the puter is an option , but wasnt sure whether toslink out will do 24/192
There is one thing you MUST be aware of , dirac needs at least 3-6db of digital attenuation , it uses 10 db by default , but you can change it , its to stop digital clipping.
so to get the same volume you listen at now , you need +6 to +10 extra on the dial of the devialet.. this might be a problem if you listen real loud using inefficient speakers

As far as I know it can technically but I only ever used it once and had even less high res files at the time.

Not sure if it varies between models.
Thank you all.
I will certainly keep and eye on the output level.

Now.... I'll wait for my order to arrive. This will take a while.
I believe it's coming from Far East.
I live in south africa , I have bought a lot of stuff from MiniDSP (fong kong).. never taken more then 5 working days from order to my door .. excellent service from them too.
As noted above, Rodney is certainly the expert!

Just read this thread and nice to know you got great result with Dirac.
I think I'm in good company.
Will let you guys know my findings.
