Set up question.

I was wondering if my two Phantom Silvers  +1 Dialogue and laptop source(via wifi) could operate, isolated from my domestic wifi. IE could I take my system somewhere  as use it, say if there was no wifi where I was? Hope that make sense!?
Thanks in advance
Dan
My guess is that this might only be possible via BLUETOOTH connection to one of the Phantoms; anything else requires the Dialog attached to an independent Home Network.

You cannot connect directly to the Dialog's own Network with a mobile device... although I don't see why not! I hope they will allow that in future.

That's a very good question. I would love to hear an authoritative answer. My guess is no -- because one of the first things the D-mob tell you to do when you set up is to get your Dialog connected to your existing wifi network.

For that application you might want to look at the JBL Xtreme. For $600, you can get two of them. They play very loud and pretty well, they have great battery life and they're engineered more ruggedly than the Phantoms, with outdoor use in mind. Infinitely more transportable than Phantoms. They are set up to intelligently play as a stereo pair with a bluetooth source, without any further hardware or internet connection. JBL realized that if you were willing to give up the high end idea that Devialet had -- providing the option of turning the Phantoms into a home-wide sound system with potentially many sound sources -- they could vastly simplify the setup, and they have. They definitely rival the Phantoms' sound at most reasonable, and even some quite loud, volume levels.

At that price, you really cannot go wrong.

And one thing Devialet should do is offer this option for 2-Phantom stereo use, and not make people buy the Dialog for that config. I don't see how it helps them to require that the Dialog be part of the deal, just limits their sales as I'd imagine most of the margin is in the Phantoms.
I haven't tried with newest firmware but earlier Spark would fail to launch if there was no internet access.
Although Dialog is building it's own wifi network you won't be able to use it because Devialet keeps the necessary security keys a secret. So your laptop simply will not be able to connect to the Devialet wifi network

You will have to connect your laptop with a crossed network cable to the ethernet port of Dialog to do what you want to do. Your laptop needs to be able to grant an IP to Dialog by using a DHCP server software.

Hi Dan,

I need a mobile configuration of two of my Phantoms for a presentation and I am sure it works. What you need is a WiFi router to establish a dedicated WiFi network for your laptop and to connect the Dialog with Ethernet. A DHCP server is also necessary.

I try it with a 6cm x 6cm TL-WR702N WiFi router which is also the required DHCP server. Alternatively a router with two Ethernet connectors (one for laptop and one for the Dialog) and DHCP server functionality will do it. Unfortunately I can check it earliest this Saturday.
@karebe: I understood that he does not want to use additional equipment besides his Phantoms, Dialog and Laptop. He surely knows that a Wifi router will work.

This is just another proposal. And what I have tried to say is that there are small but simple solutions possible. Setting up a DHCP server on a PC and a crossed Ethernet cable would not be my first option.

If I did not understand Dan's request properly than it is just one more needless answer. Nothing more and nothing less.
one option is to buy cheap router, or apple airport express, and configure it as router and dhcp server. It is cheap, and you are isolated.
Maybe it is not the most reliable solution, but once Dialog and the Phantoms are configured you can run them without additional network. At least I can unplug the ethernet cable from Dialog, have all Phantoms and Dialog unplugged from power source. When I power up the Phantoms and Dialog without Connection to my home network I can play any source from Dialog's optical input. I have autodetect turned on and am streaming from a chromecast audio. The volume after Phantoms and Dialog have booted is fixed on 35. However using the Phantom app on an Ipad allows me to change that volume. Spark will not work as the Dialog is not connected to the network that the Ipad is on. However the Phantom app uses bluetooth from a Phantom to adjust the volume. How relieable this all works when you take the system to another location, e.g. a party I do not know.
