Audirvana over UPnP ethernet works perfectly for 24/192, I've had no issues and placebo or not, but since the update I think my golds sound better than ever RE: Phantom Gold doesn't support 192/24, surprising answer from support?? - ogs - 04-Feb-2021 (04-Feb-2021, 18:34)KarlMarx Wrote:(15-Sep-2020, 13:50)ogs Wrote: I think Devialet has tried to clean up their web removing all references to 24/192 for Toslink. Now only the DAC is 24/96 (was 24/192), but everything is downsampled to 48kHz(who knows if 48kHz has been there always and 192kHz is just a mirage). I can easily believe that Phantoms sound better with the newest firmware. Someone within Devialet's design team has managed to improve sound quality of their devices. The Expert amps has had improved SQ as new firmwares came out. Not all versions were better than the previous, but the general trend has been improvement. I guess the same is the case for Phantoms. RE: Phantom Gold doesn't support 192/24, surprising answer from support?? - quagga - 05-Feb-2021 Thank you @rsemedo Or maybe I should buy Reactor 900 pair from my dealer here who have the older versions? Of course making sure they are the versions with its DAC and inputs supporting 192kHz because it seems that some latest Reactor 900 branded ones also have the current Phantom II specifications/limitations which is incredible how on earth Devialet could have sold such units while their web site were still declaring initial specs as 24bit/192kHz DAC and various such inputs. If I were one such buyer I would immediately take legal action. I realized there are also some other threads on this topic and I am reading them with pure stupefaction. I may stay away from Devialet or maybe buy old version Reactor 900s and cut all relations with them, never updating any firmware etc. RE: Phantom Gold doesn't support 192/24, surprising answer from support?? - denis - 05-Feb-2021 Another possibility is using the Phantom I in Direct optical mode bypassing any DOS2 feature (no UpnP, no remote control, no airplay, no BT, no multiroom etc). It's becoming just an amplified speaker. I assume the optical input will support at least 24/96kz maybe 192Khz. You'll need then a streamer with optical output and a $10 optical splitter from amazon that will deliver two optical feed for the two Phantoms. The Phantom web interface allow you to select the Direct optical mode and two define which speaker is going to play the left and right feed. RE: Phantom Gold doesn't support 192/24, surprising answer from support?? - quagga - 05-Feb-2021 @denis , thank you, yes Devialet Operating System 2 (DOS 2) is up to 24bits/48kHz. However it seems it's not possible even with your suggestion, unfortunately some new specs related to it are as follows: DAC: 24bits / 96kHz Analog/Optical jack input (Hi-Res: 24bits/48kHz) And I was considering Phantoms because I would like to run them all wireless (but a lot of people mentions signal drop problems too, to add fuel to the flames) . RE: Phantom Gold doesn't support 192/24, surprising answer from support?? - DesertEagleAZ - 05-Feb-2021 I'm running a pair of Golds and a pair of Reactor 600s (Phantom II 95dB ) together with four Raspberry Pi endpoints with Roon and don't have ANY issues. In fact, everything sounds absolutely wonderful and way better than what AirPlay provided before. I'm super happy and can easily overlook the downsampling for some songs that get streamed from Qobuz. RE: Phantom Gold doesn't support 192/24, surprising answer from support?? - Johnnydev - 05-Feb-2021 I have 2 phantom golds and last week i did the upgrade from Dos 1 to Dos 2 Dos 2 sounds better and no problems with tv via toslink, qobuz and internetradio via ethernet at all. RE: Phantom Gold doesn't support 192/24, surprising answer from support?? - streamy - 05-Feb-2021 It’s good to also hear positive feedback reg. the 2.12.3 update. Often there is more feedback from those that experience problems, that’s also why forums are here, to solve issues. I’m most curious if anybody could present higher than 24kHz signal coming out of a Phantom tweeter. This could then indicate that it is worth to use optical direct vs. any of the 24/48k signal paths. Pity that reverting to DOS1 is not possible to post your feedback after few weeks with DOS2. |
