As far as I understand the Devialet definitely doesn't take its power from the 5V, but like many USB devices, it needs it for the handshake with the device at the other end - i..e when you switch to USB input. So, if you cut the wire or permanently tape over the pin, you're going to have issues whenever you change source or turn on or whatever, so wouldn't recommend it. Of course, I could be wrong. Great reputation here in the UK. There are a few on here that I like the sound of, the Artisan especially. I use the usb audio 5v off output. I suppose it is still possible that a "handshake" happens via that un-powered 5v line. ( ? ) |
