RE: SOtM SMS-200 - Rama - 28-Mar-2017

On the topic of Ethernet this seems to be an interesting product. Read some discussion on CA, seems like it is being used my the same person who designed the LPS-1.

A little bit expensive for me though.

This item (https://www.reichelt.de/Network-Accessories/MED-MI1005/3/index.html?ACTION=3&LA=446&ARTICLE=125116&GROUPID=5861&artnr=MED+MI1005&SEARCH=MI%2B1005;SID=95WNo0a6wQAT8AAGDCZew1525444e72c6ae3c87a69d741cb70344) achieves similar functionality, at a cheaper price. It has been favorably tested by participants on the French forum.

I own an Emo System EN-70HD-K (K for keystone is technically identical to other variants 70HD variants but in keystone format) and coincidentally ordered it from Reichelt SwissBear links too. Direct link for that one is: https://www.reichelt.de/Network-Accessories/2/index.html?ACTION=3;ARTICLE=144021

Don't expect any large improvements from this type of tweak (network isolator). It's effects are relatively minor (in my opinion but I've read many similar opinions) and if not there's a real grounding issue in your system better solved in a different more structural way. Smile

Hi, I've been using a network Islolator type EMO EN-30 with shielded CAT-7 cables for about 2 years. Previously used CAT-5, with the change to 7 disappeared even the smallest interference!?

Would you say that this kind of product would being any sonic benefits if it sits between a Melco N1A and SOTM SMS-200? Currently I have the units connected via a Audioquest Diamond ethernet cable.

Thanks Antoine for saving me $150. The next upgrade for my SMS-200 will be either be a Uptone LPS-1 or a SOTM sPS-500. I think the sPS-500 might be released anytime in April. Having read many CA forum posts a good power supply with an SMS-200 can apparently raise its performance to an equivalent sonic level as an Auralic Aries (femto clock ver). Currently with the ifi ipower I am getting a taste of what might be possible, but a lot is to be desired. I might even consider a Sbooster 9v depending how much i want to dig into my pocket.

Hi Rama,

Just to share, I start my sms-200 usage with ifi iPower, it's nice, then upgrade to Uptone JS-2 now, which bring a noticeable improvement.

In any case! I switched it between Melco and linn Klimax, brought not so much, because the Melco Player exit is already filtered and decoupled. The biggest profit brought the isolator to the Melco LAN entrance!

Using it with a high quality PSU in the right setup should take it beyond most everything. (even the most expensive Aurender W20 if some sources are to be believed)

Little is know about the sPS-500. It's going to be a hybrid of some sorts but no idea what. I think, considering the relatively high power output capabilities it's going to be hybrid linear-SMPS PSU.

You can't go wrong with the LPS-1. Keep in mind though that it will most likely not be powerful enough for the upcoming SMS-200 Ultra. A 12V SBooster BOTW is a nice affordable option. Best would no doubt be something like the Paul Hynes SR7 PSU. Based on user reviews I believe the higher power output capable Uptone JS-2 performs at or just little under the level of a LPS-1, at least on the microRendu.

Have you guys not considered the the SOTM battery unit?
