Phantom 1 Gold x2 for vinyl and PC
#1
Hi guys,

Been searching around without any clear answer to this, so I figured I'd ask here.
So my wife are having me throw out my Adyton speakers and Devialet Expert Pro due to wanting a more "clean" living room. So someone adviced me on running a dual gold setup which I've gotten an alright offer for a pair. So my main music listening is vinyl (I know I need to get an Arch for this), mostly 60s and 70s stuff, and secondary Spotify running on my small media center PC. Beyond this I need stereo sound for TV which also is streaming from my PC (which has a toslink output).

Has anyone any similar setup with them? Happy? Something not working as it should? Any pit falls? Someone mentioned audio delay when streaming direct from TV, is this still an issue?

The Phantom supports Spotify Connect, so that wouldn't be a problem. If the TV has an optical output you could use that. If you use an Apple TV, AirPlay will be a good solution for streaming the TV sound. An Arch for the turntable could be a solution, another one is a Parks Audio Puffin/Waxwing with optical output. The Puffin/Waxwing is more versatile than the Arch, and sounds great. If you need another optical input, a Dialog will do the trick. They're no longer in production, but inexpensive in the second hand market. I've used both optical and AirPlay for TV sound without lip sync issues.
Living room: Sigberg Audio Manta/10D subs, MiniDSP SHD.
Den: Tannoy Precision 8 iDP/TS112 iDP sub, MiniDSP SHD Studio.
In the cupboard: Some bits and pieces of a Phantom Silver 1. gen.

Hi @ragwo,

Thanks for your response, but I am using a PC with an optical output that I run ITunes, VLC, and web based streaming service like Netflix and a few local Norway steaming service. Can one expect any audio delay if connecting via the PC sound card directly to the Phantom (baring in mind I also need to have vinyl playback possibility via Arch or the Parks you are mentioning).

Thanks!

Av nysgjerrighet, hvilke Adytonhøyttalere skal Phantom erstatte? Kan være store sko å fylle, etter hva jeg har lest om Geir Fredriksens kreasjoner.

You should be OK regarding lip sync, it's a 60 ms delay on the optical inputs. With the inevitable input lag on the TV, I've not been bothered by lip sync issues. I do recommend an Apple TV though, if your Norwegian streaming services have apps for Apple TV. I'm a die hard Android fan, so it kind of hurts recommending an Apple gadget, but lip sync isn't an issue with AirPlay.

Haha verden er liten, en annen nordmann! Jeg måtte selge mine Adyton/Eben X3. Knallbra lyd, men dessverre ikke konevennlige.

Well I do have an Apple TV for another TV,  but considering I shift so much between VLC and the likes of Discovery, TV2 Play, using the Apple TV becomes more of a hassle.

Fruen synes Phantoms er pene nok til å ha i stuen, men om du har andre høyttalertips (gjerne i hvitt) så har jeg fortsatt Expert 200'en jeg kan benytte Smile

You have PM, so we don't litter the thread with Norwegian.
