Apple Lossless and AIR
#1
I bought my 220 Expert Pro as a one box streamer/DAC/Phono Amp solution some years ago. The phono stage works very well and until recently I was able to Use the AIR software to stream from my Mac which was high quality and infinitely better than Airplay.

I dont understand why Devialet has stopped supporting AIR on the Mac platform. Macs are still exceptionally popular as home laptops and offered a way to get quality streaming. There has never been iPad or iPhone support so anything Apple based is now reduced to bluetooth airplay which is fine for a kitchen speaker but no good for serious listening. Am I missing something or are my only solutions now to use Roon ( which requires a dedicated core ) or to buy another dedicated streamer and simply use the Expert Pro as an Amp? if so any suggestions?

Given there are so many new one box solutions coming to the market it seems strange to drop their core streaming software. The Expert Pro is still an exceptional amp when feed from a source, there is still nothing I have heard at this level that comes even close. The A+T is apparently very good, but its over 2x as much.

You don't have to use a separate device to host the Roon server, it can run on your Mac (it's bundled with the MacOS Roon app).

If you've a music library on the Mac, the Roon server can stream from that as well as external services.

The Roon app on an Android or IOS device can also be used to control play from the server on the Mac.
