I have the 1987 Karajan which is fairly conventional and large scale (gothic?) but very dramatic. I also have a very good version by Mackerras on Linn SACD which is probably the best recording technically. This is lighter in texture however.
Otto Klemperer recorded a mighty version long ago which bears no relation to the style of performance we hear today. He looks gothic!
Ah, Harry, I'd actually been looking for a particularly gothic version of Mozart's Requiem. A few clicks and I've picked one up on the net (1987 Karajan, re-released), it better be good, serious cash spent. (£6)

I am not smoking mushrooms (yet), but struggling with including the cover image in the message. Past 40 years old:-) I give up. My suggestion is The Toure Raichel collective - The Paris session. Absolutely fabulous!!!

Are you suggesting that you will be smoking mushrooms later on?
(BTW, I have been told a tea style infusion is better, followed by Orb Live albums)

Listening to it just now, thanks to you too for the recommendation! The guitar, piano, percussion, bass, all really, interact beautifully between them.
The story behind this duo is also an interesting read! I didn't know them...

As I implied, I am getting old and wine is doing the trick. Tonight's Cotes du Rhone seems to be more than enough:-). And music rules!!

Crickey that's about three pints of Holts! I'm sure Herr von Karajan will suffice.
