Thanks for all the info - so you are running Minimserver on the Melco but the actual FLAC library it is using is on another NAS (i.e. not on the disks in the Melco?)

No - Minimserver and files on the Melco.
I rip the music to my Qnap and then sync the music to the Melco, so effectively using the Melco as a backup device as well as a playback device. So probably different to how most people would use it but I may as well make use of storage on both Qnap and Melco.

Questions, questions :-)
So do you use another UPnP control point on an iOS device to manage the Melco? Is it stable (the Melco I mean, not the control point....!)
I am a long-term user of a MiND 180 but would be tempted to move to the Melco.....

I actually use boring old Linn Kinsky as that's what I'm used to! It doesn't cache anything and I quite like that, one less complication - though it doesn't look too pretty. The Lumin app is probably a lot faster as it maintains its own index of stuff. I may give it a try. The Melco should work with pretty much any control point.
The Melco is super-stable and works much better than the MiND 180 with the usual control points (I don't like the MiND 180 app at all and not sure if it's improved over the last year since I last used it?). You have to remember to set the playback 'mode' to 1 to enable Openhome otherwise it's vanilla UPnP.
My only small criticism of the Melco so far is gapless playback - even with Openhome enabled there's a small (around 0.25sec) gap between tracks.

So, with OH and Kinsky, it is not gapless?
Have you tried MinimServer on the N1A? It should work with Kinsky (at least it does on my Lumin).

This is with Minimserver on the N1A... I might try the Lumin app to see if it's any different regarding gapless playback. I just tried again with Kinsky and the gap is probably less than 0.25secs - maybe 0.1secs.
I'll check the Minimserver settings too...
OK, had a quick look. Don't think there's anything I can do on this. Remember Minimserver is in beta on the Melco so possibly this is one thing that needs to be ironed out.

One thing I do notice seems to work well with the Melco is seek - fast forward/reverse. For some reason it seems much better than any other UPnP device I've used (i.e most are pretty useless).

OK, tried Lumin with Minimeserver - very slight gap still, possibly shorter. I really ought to check out the Melco thread on the Minimserver forum as I'm sure someone's been through this already!
