MELCO

I have wondered if using external storage would compromise some of the features of the internal disks they use, unless the disk type was the same as the internal ones but then the USB connectivity may be a disadvantage over how the internal disks are connected (PCIe?).

Yes, its not clear to me how this works.  I would have thought they would use the same approach for the N1A and N1Z w.r.t. transferring data from external storage.

I'd understood that's exactly what they do use it for.

As you were: I think I got that confused with amabrok's description of the Aurender N10.  Sorry  Angel

+1

..and Paul's lab reports are concise and useful as well.

Did anybody try to playback dsf/dff files over pcm (DoP mode)? Do you have gapless playback for DoP? My friend Michael haven't gapless playback of dsf from USB player Melco N1Z to DAC TAD DA1000 for DoP mode. The dsf playback in "Convert to PCM" mode on Melco is also not gapless. PCM (flac, wav) is played in gapless mode. Firmware is 2.10. Mediaserver is Twonky. CPs are Lumin and PlugPlayer.

None.  The digital audio output is USB only.
