Just to add that the new arcam app works with the Melco and is much better than kinsky IMO. First night of using this and so far so good

Hi
Do you have to set the Melco to type 0 to use the Musiclife app?
I downloaded it and can see the servers but it can't see the player in the Melco , just my Sonos and iPad
It looks nice though so it would be good to try.
Cheers
Chris

Not sure why that is happening. There is nothing else to do when changing mode. When you change the mode it will take about 30 seconds and you will see it happening on the display. Can you see that happening? Email Melco, on the few occasions I have had to do that they have been very helpful

A few replies as been away awhile. I owned a Lumin A1 which I used for about a year. I've got to use several other popular devices (to include Aurender and Mac Mini) as well. I began my computer music file journey with a DIY setup I found out about on Computer Audiophile many years ago.
I'm an early N1A adaptor (live in US and bought my N1A from one of Melco's first UK dealers). Back then I was told by Alan that Melco had Melco control app in works. My advice with Melco rumors is take a "seeing is believing" attitude. I'm not pleased with any of the third party control apps I've used with the N1A. I like the Lumin app best, but it has negatives that make it less than ideal as well. My experience with higher quality Japanese audio components has been that they arrive fully conceived, but perhaps Melco has no desire to spend their resources on developing a Melco app. Like to find out how many N1A/N1Z units Melco's sold to date.
Roon is very good - should be for that price. JRiver Media Center masters license is best deal around IMO. I never used JRemote. Does JRemote control DSD files? One third of my library is DSD.
Even with the disappointment of no Melco control app I really like my N1A, and could care less that some audio website forums are chock-a-block with members saying Melco's are overpriced with sound quality no better than that vs regular consumer NAS.

Yes I read some of those too, primarily on the Linn webiste.
I had to find something as AIR was too unreliable for me. I did not want to spend a lot of cash as I wanted the main money to go on my Devialet and speakers. The N1A fit the bill. It also meant that I could get rid of my NAS and all the cables etc.
I was a little cynical that the Melco would add anything to the sound quality as its just an optimised hard drive surely?
It did though, I feel it gave a more detailed presentation.....as good as AIR? I have no idea as it is now a distant memory.
Bob apparently Melco are working on an app....famous last words i know.
I have just switched to the Arcam app as it is much better than Kinsky IMO

Thanks everyone. I happy i got the Melco or what we call it here in Japan, Dela. Im just a little frustrated with the third party app. They seem finicky. Im still new to the whole computer audiophile other than using my mac mini for the past couple years. It may be a wifi setting and i will mess with. I did download the Arcam app and yet again i could not get it to play. It did recognize the network, but did not transmit to the Dela when i played. Again, i am new and ill get it to work. This is a great thread and it is great hearing all the experiences.
