MELCO
(23-Feb-2016, 23:03)Music or sound Wrote: I was reading a very positive review of the N1A in the March issue of Stereophile  but it states that it would not play from internet streaming services. True? I have relative few downloads and prefer to play CDs on my transport and streaming would is the main reason I am interested in a server to replace my aging Macbook.

If you use Bubble upnp on Android to control it you get Tidal and other services in what they call Cloud.  It is also possible to play internetradio through Bubble.

I was really hoping the new app would have been announced at the Bristol Hifi show..

Can anyone tell me if there is a way of getting the Melco to work with Phantom? I could use a USB to optical converter but was wondering if the two could communicate through the network?

I dont know but dont you have to have a Dialog and Spark app to point Spark to the HDD in the Melco so that it acts like a NAS. To me this seems a bit overkill to only use the Melco as a NAS and not use the USB output that so many thinks is really good.

I am intrested in Melco N1A or perhaps the new one N1ZH but I have some questions, pethaps somebody have some answers.

1. Is there anyone using Bubble UPNP app for Android to control the Melco? I use Bubble and it works perfectly with Chromecast but it would be nice to know how it works with Melco before buying one.

2. The Ethernet port that is used to connect a streamer is that visible to the network or is that totally isolated from the network? If one connects a render to that port will a UPNP app on my tablet se that as a render through the Melco?

I've not tried BubbleUPNP with Melco but would be very surprised if it doesn't work. I'm pretty sure I've read of people using it.

The Melco acts as a network bridge so anything on the Player port will be visible to devices on the LAN port and vice versa.
If Direct Mode is selected (or another DHCP server is not detected on the network - I'm not 100% sure on this) then the Melco will run a DHCP server and provide an IP address to a device on its Player network side.

I did hear a rumour (from a dealer) that Melco's own app is coming out "in a couple of weeks". Anyone else heard similar? (or heard something different?)

I heard no later than Munich which is their very final cutoff date, but possibly earlier.

I believe they are some delays with implementing Qobuz and other streaming services, my understanding is that Qobuz will come first though. It's not clear if this is holding things up or not.

I was told weeks not months, this was from Melco themselves, and this was on Feb 18th so I am hoping in next week or so.

I think there are a few users who use the Bubble upnp app without any problems

I suppose other streaming services is Tidal otherwise the Melco app is not bringing anything to me.

And is it only for iOS or are the app also for Android?
