MELCO
(07-Mar-2016, 12:39)octaviars Wrote: I am intrested in Melco N1A or perhaps the new one N1ZH but I have some questions, pethaps somebody have some answers.

1. Is there anyone using Bubble UPNP app for Android to control the Melco? I use Bubble and it works perfectly with Chromecast but it would be nice to know how it works with Melco before buying one.

2. The Ethernet port that is used to connect a streamer is that visible to the network or is that totally isolated from the network? If one connects a render to that port will a UPNP app on my tablet se that as a render through the Melco?

Hi,

I use BubbleUPNP with the Melco and it works pretty good, no real complaints so far. You just have to make sure, that you have the right setting for Controller Mode on the Melco (Settings >> USB-DAC >> Controller >> Mode0 (which is for UPNP)).
You could even stream from Qobuz or Tidal through Bubble UPNP to the Melco, but I haven't tried it, since I haven't decided wether to go with Qobuz or Tidal.

I use Bubble today and stream Tidal with it so my question was mostly how Bubble work with Melco.

There will be an app for both iOS and Android, the iOS version is en beta test now and Andrid version will follow after that.

When I get my new speakers my dealer has made arrangements so I will get a N1A to test, looking forward to this.

Being weary to wait for Melco (N1a) iOS application, i bought a first price Android tablet. And now, with Bubleupnp, i can get Qobuz with a much better sound.

Before using a Rosita bêta to listen Qobuz, the sound wasn't good enough. To thin and lack of dynamic. And with Chromecast it Was worth (but with very basic connection). But that's normal with passages : numeric => analogic conversion In Rosta => then numeric conversion and again analogic conversion In Devialet.

With Bubbleupnp you can get Tidal, Google Music, Amazon ... And of course all the serveur.

There's an interesting audio interview with Alan Ainslie of Melco on Paul Rigby's (The Audiophile Man) site here:

http://www.theaudiophileman.com/#!sound-...port/c22he

No mention of the control app but he does explain how Melco have gone about optimising their design for audio replay and simplicity of use, confirmation that an external drive can be added for ripping CDs accessing metadata from Gracenote and also why the N1Z is so expensive - just one of the 512GB SSDs costs the same to make as a complete N1A.  He confirmed that the N1ZH is based on the N1Z but unfortunately got side-tracked in the interview and didn't get around to explaining how it sounds in comparison to the N1Z.

Alan appears to be a very knowledgeable and credible person and I would suggest that Melco should ask him to review and improve the information on their web-sites some of which is quite confusing.
