Finally I have some Phantom related news. A new project arrived yesterday, a Phantom Gold.
A bit dented, at least one of the woofers are wrecked.
As always, the cupboard is filled with spares. A glossy white Gold is going to be matte black, thanks to the chassis of a 103dB. Sorry for the mess, I'm incapable of keeping it tidy while tinkering.
The tweeters aren't the same in the Gold/108dB and 103dB you say? Taking apart and rebuilding a Phantom is like building Lego. I had to experiment a bit on a faulty Phantom to figure out how to remove the tweeter and mid woofer, it turns out it's really easy. The tweeter is held in place by a gasket. Just carefully pry it out with a screwdriver or similar. So much for Devialet refusing to repair the speakers for years, blaming the incredibly complicated design. That's pure BS. They screwed their customers over for over half a decade, and as you might understand, I'm a bit pissed off about that.
Half way out
To be continued.
