Drastic Measures for Dead Phantom Reactor 600 Pair
#1
Good evening, Devialet community. I'm hoping someone here can help me find a path forward on a bricked pair of Phantoms.

I have a pair of white Reactor 900s, a solo black Phantom II, and a white Mania at my home (listening to the Mania in the background right now, actually). None of them have been functionally flawless, but they are all currently operable. The same cannot be said for a pair of Reactor 600s I purchased as a gift for my sister.

They initially worked for a few months, but then worked intermittently, and eventually stopped working altogether (they do not produce any sound). I have a background in consumer electronics, so I thought I could probably figure it out if I could ever free up some time to go spend some time at her home chasing down whatever problems were causing the issue. I recently spent a day at her place working on getting her speakers up and running, and although I tried a ton of different things, the end result was that neither speaker would make any sound of any kind (not even boot-up indicators, etc). The light indicators work and I'm able to connect to the speakers via Bluetooth, the Devialet app, UPnP, mini-Toslink (from a tested and functional source), via the direct IP address, and I attempted multiple steps via wireless and direct ethernet connection to a brand-new and fully functional router. I was able to update both speakers to the most recent firmware and confirm that they are now running 2.19.1, but still-- no sounds of any kind, and no wiggles from the cheeks in any scenario.  I also connected them to a Devialet remote and confirmed in the app that they are not muted. I attempted several different factory reset sequences, and got the correct indicator lights for a reset. I sent reset commands from the direct IP address, and I attempted multiple different power-off sequences (including a rather convoluted method of turning it off and on at precise intervals via a power strip for 60 seconds to put it in some type of special mode whose name escapes me), but again-- no progress.

One odd note that might be helpful to someone more knowledgeable than I: when attempting to play over UPnP, I could choose the speakers as renderers and the song would appear to play for a moment, but then the time elapsed indicator would not progress, indicating it was unable to play for some reason.

I bought them second-hand, so I do not believe I have any warranty options. I have reached out to Devialet's customer support, but it's been a week with no response from the company. I've been poring over various forums and anywhere else I thought I might be able to find help, and it sounds like this is just a thing that happens often with Devialet products, and the company does not seem to have the inclination and/or wherewithal to address it.

It is possible that there is some physical component that is causing the issue (amp failure, etc), but they are both in very good shape and failed at the same time, which leads me to believe it is more likely to be a software issue.

Given this, here are my questions:
  • Does anyone have a fix for the complete silence issue?
  • If not, I noticed when logging in directly to the IP address of the speakers that I have the option to change the firmware. Is there a way to upload a previous (and potentially more stable and/or functional) firmware version? If so, what is a legitimate source for older firmware packages for the speakers?
  • Are there any other options I haven't considered for getting these back up and running?

As we all know, these aren't inexpensive speakers (even when purchased secondhand), and I really think they would be perfect for my sister if they would just work at a basic level. Any help you can give would be very much appreciated!

Thank you in advance!
